There is a large need in the recovery of SUD patients to be educated on the benefits of nutrition and physical activity. Many individuals who struggle with SUDs are largely unaware of how to begin to live a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle includes balanced nutrition and regular physical activity. The article below addresses these concerns and explores the benefits of adding good nutrition and physical activity to substance use disorder treatment.

3-Week/ 3-Day Courses

Syllabus

It is my belief that health and wellness can tremendously aid in the treatment and recovery of substance use disorders. It is highly common for individuals struggling with SUDs to have many unhealthy lifestyle factors and be involved in many high-risk activities. For a patient to see success incorporating health and wellness into treatment and recovery, they must first be aware of healthy lifestyle habits and be educated on how to make these changes and include them in their everyday lives. These courses are aimed at educating patients and professionals on the course material, as well as, how patients can incorporate the knowledge from these courses into their treatment and recovery efforts.

Vitamins, herbs, and nutrition are important factors in our health and wellness. It is essential to be knowledgeable about what we put into our bodies and how we should be eating to give our bodies the best fuel we can. It is also crucial to be aware of multicultural literacy in the field of health and wellness. Not every client or patient is the same, comes from the same background, or has the same needs. We need to treat everyone equally and provide them with the specific care that they need and deserve.

Course Resources

Complementary and Integrative Medicine is such a wonderful alternative and integration with traditional medicine and healthcare. It offers an invaluable number of benefits and modalities that can increase whole person wellness. The presentation below explores CIM, its benefits, modalities, and how it can be useful in the treatment and recovery of individuals suffering from substance use disorders.

Understanding what wellness means is essential to our health. Wellness is not only physical, but it includes many other dimensions that have an impact on our health. It is also important to be aware of lifestyle and risk factors. While this information is useful for everyone, it is crucial information to those suffering from a substance use disorder.

The link above provides access to a previous project where I created and completed questionnaire that health providers could use. The questionnaire was created to assess what an individual believes wellness and spirituality are. It also assesses the importance of these categories in an individual’s life and if they see benefits from practicing spirituality.

The link above provides access to a final project I submitted related to the high levels of stress that women are burdened with and how they may manage those stressors. While everyone deals with stress, women are more likely to have higher levels of stress and anxiety. It is essential to long-term health that individuals are able to learn coping mechanisms and stress management techniques.

The links above provide access to a project that I completed in class EF310. This project was focused on exercise prescription using the FITT Method and PROS Principle. The PowerPoint includes information on different methods of physical activity as well as explains the FITT Method and PROS Principle. I have also included a Word document that showed a personalized plan for myself using these methods of exercise prescription based on my own realistic goals.
